SACC Registered - Maine Coon Breeder
Silverpaws Cattery is based in the heart of Durban, South Africa.
We are hobbyist breeders that breed out of the love & passion for our breed, to better & conserve. We strive to breed beautiful, healthy, well socialized and well tempered Mainecoon kittens that are true to the breed standard.
We are registered with all three recognized cat registration bodies in SA: CFSA, SACC & CASA (WCF).
Our breeding cats are tested (negative) for the following genetic diseases; HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy), SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) and PKdef (pyruvate kinase deficiency) to ensure healthy kittens free from genetic diseases as far as humanly possible.
The price of our kittens includes:
3 vaccinations/inoculations, first and second as well as first round of rabies
??? ???????:
All kittens leaving Silverpaws Cattery are sold as pet kittens. We do NOT sell kittens for breeding purposes, we may choose to work with a small group of well established breeders & catteries within SA but otherwise do not sell intact kittens for any reason whatsoever. In no way does ENS (early neuter & spay) affect the overall or long term health of any kitten.
Our kittens are sold ONLY to approved homes.
We would appreciate a short introduction on the person/family inquiring about our kitten/s when approaching us. You will be required to fill in a kitten questionnaire, for us to get an idea of the home and environment our kitten would be living in. Only upon approval, will you then be added to a ‘waiting list’, for a kitten of your preferred gender and/or colour.
You will be updated about possible litters with potential kittens of your preference in accordance of the list.
Once a litter is born, kitten allocations can take place anywhere from 3 weeks and onward. Any kittens under evaluation for breeding will not be allocated until such time that a decision is made based on the quality of the kitten in terms of standard, therefore certain kittens may become available at a later stage. Upon booking a kitten you will be required to sign and fulfil a strict contract pertaining to the kitten, as well as a 50% non-refundable deposit once you have chosen a kitten that is to your liking.
The deposit is to secure your kitten, once a deposit has been paid and the contract signed, the kitten will be provisionally booked for you.
The remaining balance must be paid prior to kittens leaving for their new homes.
Kittens leave between 13-16 weeks based on their individual growth and development, please understand that this it to ensure you get a well socialized, loving and confident kitten that is ready to venture off into their new homes. If at any point in time we feel that a kitten is not ready to leave, their departure may be delayed at our sole discretion. We always do what is best for our kittens, their health and well being is forever our main concern and priority!
Know that when you are adopting a kitten from us, you are committing to a lifetime friendship between us and you as the owner, our kittens mean a great deal to us, and while we don’t expect to know your every day lives, we do like to keep in touch with our owners for as long as our babies live & more, they are forever a part of our lives.
We do fly kittens to all major cities within SA (from airport to airport) via Petlounge, all transportation costs will be for the new owner/s accord, all flight arrangements are made by us as the breeders.
All transportation options will be discussed prior to a kitten leaving.
??? ????????????:
We don’t place our kittens in single cat households, meaning a household where they would be just one kitten/cat. Cats in general, but Mainecoons specifically are extremely social and require company in order to grow and thrive.
our kittens grow up in our households with several other kittens and cats of all ages as well as different species of animals, and for them to come from such a busy household and then go to a household where they are the only kitten/cat is not fair. It would be like one human being living alone for the entire duration of their lives, with no friends or family. All living beings require same species interaction, for mental and physical growth and stimulation.
Our requirement would be for a prospective owner to either; adopt two kittens (either from us or a different breeder) it could even be an entirely different breed if you’d like, or a rescue from a shelter/organization. Provided that the rescue kitten has all its required vaccines, is dewormed, microchipped and sterilized. And has no known communicable diseases or viruses that could potentially harm or put our kitten at risk.
We don’t place our kittens in free roaming homes, as they are sold as strictly indoor pets. They are only ever allowed outdoors within a safe, escape proof space like an enclosed garden secured with electric fencing or a Catio, or under supervision on a harness and lead.
Even if our kitten were to remain indoors with siblings that were free roam, that would still pose a threat to them. When cats free roam, they are exposed to a lot of things, be it viruses and/or diseases, a lot of which are incurable such as FIV and Felv, they are exposed to cars, dogs that are not-cat friendly, unfriendly and unkind humans, and a thousand and one other things. When it comes to viruses and diseases, if a single cat in the household free roams and they pick up something, that can be transmitted to the other cats within the household as diseases and viruses are often passed on via bodily fluids; so sharing of food/water bowls, sharing of litter boxes, grooming one another, etc. Saliva, nasal and eye discharge along with urine and fecal matter can all pass on diseases and viruses.
This is to ensure the safety of our kittens, and their long term health and well being.
Our kittens and cats are fed a balanced, species appropriate RAW diet. It will be a requirement for our kittens to continue with this diet. Their raw meals can be purchased from a DAFF registered company that specializes in raw pet food or DIY at home, provided that it is a balanced, nutritionally sufficient recipe.
We are here for lifetime support, whenever and however. At any point, if you wish for us to explain or elaborate on anything or you’d like to ask questions regarding the above or anything else, please feel free to do so. We are only too happy to help.

AT ALL TIMES, SILVERPAWS CATTERY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUND AND/OR DENY THE PURCHASE OF ANY OF OUR KITTENS AT OUR SOLE DISCRETION BASED ON THE BEST INTEREST OF OUR KITTEN/S.
