We are a mixed practice veterinary clinic nestled in the heart of the Tulbagh Valley. We have both a small and equine hospital and are specialised in reproductive services
We lost our 3-year-old Akbash due to what we believe was avoidable negligence. After three days on IV fluids and antibiotics for severe gastrointestinal and organ issues, she was discharged — not because she was stable, but because the clinic was closing for the weekend. She was still in obvious pain, not eating, moaning, and breathing shallowly. No emergency referral or continued care was offered. That evening, she died at 8 PM — in distress, in front of my elderly parents who loved her deeply. Sending her home in that condition, without support or options, showed a clear lack of duty of care. We trusted this clinic with her life. We feel devastated and betrayed. Let this be a warning: if your pet is seriously ill and your vet plans to close, demand a 24-hour referral. Don’t assume they will act in your pet’s best interest.
