Summerveld Hound Resort

SHR is a registered non-profit & PBO dog rescue sanctuary based in Assagay, KZN. We are home to 90 dogs. We have a  Right To Life Policy which means that no healthy animal is euthanized & we ensure that every animal in our care deserves a chance to live their best life possible. We have a strict no adoption policy & are committed to protecting, cherishing, unconditionally loving and providing a better quality of life for every single one of our rescues. Our sanctuary provides a family friendly environment for our rescues to grow up in/spend their remaining days being loved, having a family & a place to call home. We strive to educate our community on pet ownership, adoptions, sterilizations, and animal welfare. 

We are a forever home to our rescues because we believe that they are part of our family, and we could not possibly imagine life without them. We provide our rescues with a safe haven & a better quality of life in a family/home environment.

We did attempt to rehome some of our rescues numerous times, homechecks were even done & approved, but during our surprise visits we were appalled at seeing their conditions. 

When trying to rehome our rescues, we found that many people were just interested in finding a play mate for their pet, or a guard dog, and some people didn’t like that our furbabies weren’t of a specific breed. 

There are a number of ways in which you could help and support the work that our organisation does:

• Become a Paw Member by simply donating a minimum of R50 a month directly into our bank account. This contributes towards dog food and vet bills.
• Virtually adopt one or more dog/s for R500 per month. This covers their food, medical care, and upkeep costs.
• Visit our sanctuary to spend time, play with, and get to know our rescues.
• Sponsor a kennel for R3000.
• Donate essential items on our sanctuary wish list, as they are always needed.
