A LOT! Pellets were introduced in the US in the 70’s when there was an influx of grain that was not fit for human consumption. The companies needed something to do with it and so the idea of dog food was born. Cat food quickly followed suit. It solved the need for “convenience” and they were able to make money on an otherwise wasted product. The problem with pellets is that it is comprised of over 95% grain which is completely wrong for the biological makeup of cat and dog bodies. They are both carnivores and the majority of their diets should comprise of meat (75% – 80%). Raw food is now conveniently packed into 100g, 250g, 500g and 1kg portions and frozen beforehand which locks in all the goodness.
