Festive Season Tips To Keep Your Parrot Happy & Calm

Christmas can be a stressful time for parrots and birds, with all the noise and excitement of the season. It’s important to take steps to keep your pet parrot calm and comfortable during the festive season to prevent them from becoming overwhelmed or scared. Here are some tips for keeping your parrot calm during the festive period!

1    Create a quiet and safe place for your bird

The hustle and bustle of the festive period can be overwhelming for a parrot, so it’s important to provide them with a quiet space where they can retreat if they need to. This could be a separate room or a cage with a cover on it. Make sure the space is free from loud noises and distractions, and provide plenty of toys, fresh water and food and perches for them to enjoy and escape the noise.

2    Keep your parrot’s routine consistent

Parrots thrive on routine, so it’s important to keep their regular schedule as close to normal as possible during the holiday season. This means sticking to your pet bird’s regular feeding times, exercise routines, and bedtimes as much as you can over the festive season.  parrot bird in cage

3    Take your time with the introductions

If you’re expecting guests during the holiday season, it’s important to introduce them to your parrot slowly and carefully. Allow your parrot to approach the new person on their own terms, and never force them to interact if they don’t want to. Similarly, if you’re planning on taking your parrot to a new location, such as a holiday party, make sure to introduce them to the new environment gradually and give them plenty of time to adjust.

4   Give your parrot lots of stimulation

Parrots are intelligent and curious birds, so it’s important to provide them with plenty of stimulating activities to keep them entertained. This could include puzzle toys, foraging opportunities, and interactive play sessions with you. This will help to keep your parrot’s mind occupied and prevent them from becoming bored or anxious.  5    Consider using calming aids

If your parrot is particularly anxious or prone to stress, there are a few calming aids you can try. These include pheromone sprays or diffusers, calming music, and natural remedies such as lavender or chamomile. Always consult with your veterinarian before using any calming aids to ensure they are safe for your parrot. Overall, the key to keeping your parrot calm during Christmas is to provide them with a safe, quiet space, maintain their regular routine as much as possible, and provide them with plenty of mental and physical stimulation. By following these tips, you can help your parrot enjoy the holiday season and avoid becoming overwhelmed or stressed.
