Kleinmond Animal Welfare Society

About KAWS

Kleinmond Animal Welfare Society (KAWS)  is a non-profit organisation with the aim to serve the areas of Rooi Els, Pringle Bay, Betty’s Bay, Kleinmond and Salandra by taking care of the community’s unwanted, mistreated and neglected pets.

We advocate and promote the sterilisation of cats and dogs to curb unwanted breeding in an already overpopulated pet community. We sterilise, dip, vaccinate, deworm and treat illnesses of animals in our low-income communities and provide a safe haven for homeless or surrendered animals until we’re able to place them in good, loving homes.

Our Adoption Process

Any suitable person that wants to adopt one of our animals has to fill in an adoption application form, after that a strict home check is carried out. If they live out of the Kleinmond area we arrange for the home check to be done by a welfare of SPCA in that area. All our animals are sterilised, their vaccinations are up to date. We can have an animal microchipped at the owner's expense, our adoption fees do not include that. We do not have any animals with special needs at this time,we have in the past had a dog with diabetes which was adopted. We encourage members of the public who are looking to adopt to come and visit our animals, we find that this is extremely important. If an animal is adopted from another city, we have two free flights nationally, the adoptee only has to pay the crate fee. Adoption of our dogs is successful, in the last year we have had 600 dogs adopted. It is difficult to say how many are adopted monthly as this varies, in July 2023 we had 8 animals adopted.
