The best way to describe who SAFE is and why we created the organisation is to speak into our identified tagline which is “taking responsibility for change”
There are three core founders, each from different backgrounds and skill sets, however, we are all aligned with our core ethos which is to make a positive change not only for animals but also for our community.
In founding SAFE we sat down and looked at the overwhelming statistics and the reality of the unprecedented numbers of unwanted, abandoned and abused puppies and dogs in KZN at present.
We can no longer “adopt the problem” away, there are just far too many puppies and dogs needing homes, rescue centres are full, and funding and support has dwindled.
We identified three key challenges that are contributing to this problem, namely: Lack of Sterilization, Education about the care, treatment, and medical requirements of animal ownership and Poverty and job security.
We then looked at how we could take responsibility for these areas to see change and formed the three pillars that makeup what SAFE does to contribute towards this change.
What is the adoption process like?
If you’re interested in adopting, complete an adoption application for that pet. If our team determines that you and the pet you’ve applied for are a good match, you’ll hear from us with more information about our adoption process—which may take up to a week.
Our adoption program is entirely foster-based. So all viewing is strictly by appointment and is normally held in a neutral area, or at the applicants home if introductions need to be made with other animals.
When you choose to adopt a rescued dog or puppy from SAFE, you not only transform your own life in the most wonderful ways, but you also create an opportunity for another dog to be saved. The animals at SAFE have been rescued from situations of abuse, neglect, and abandonment.
All the dogs and puppies below are ready for adoption, and waiting for YOU to give them a new forever home.
Adoption is R800. Visit the adoption page to see what is included.
Do the animals come spayed/neutered? Up to date on vaccines? Microchipped?
We ensure your new friend is fully vet checked, and vaccinated.
Our adoption fee is R800 and contributes to covering some of the costs of: Full vet examination, Up-to-date vaccinations, Up-to-date deworming, Microchip (if older than 12 weeks) add R300 to the adoption fee, Flea and tick treatment and Sterilisation (if older than 6 months).
How far do you travel for home visits?
We travel all around KZN for home checks and we can organise home checks around the country through our partnered rescue centres.
