Charming circa 1864 Victorian building (first accommodation establishment in town and older than the local stone church). Lovingly restored with stunning decor, Victorian wallpaper and roaring fireplaces. Feast your eyes on yellowwood and stinkwood tables with bent wood chairs, comfy old-school arm chairs, and a sunny ‘stoep’ with a fountain that attracts birds. Pretty Maxwell Williams tea cups, glass tea pots, pretty crockery. Smooth swing style and acid jazz lounge music. Posh, but in a quirky-arty and informal way, with cheeky owners and spoiled resident worries (we’re dog friendly, but they’re occasionally a tad ‘bietsie” to their four-legged guests). See Country Life country restaurant section for info.
